Continental Airlines offered five nonstop flights between Newark, N.J., and South Bend in an effort to take advantage of University of Notre Dame home football games.

According to John Schalliol, the South Bend Regional Airport's Executive Director, the flights departed from Newark on Fridays and returned from South Bend on Sundays.

The new flights allowed Continental to attract fans attending the Oct. 15 USC game; the Oct. 22 BYU game; the Nov. 5 Tennessee game; the Nov. 12 Navy game; and the Nov. 19 Syracuse game.

The Airport is hopeful that Continental may offer additional flights next year based upon expected demand.
