Airport Authority expands restrictions on tobacco usage
In order to better ensure compliance with the St. Joseph County Smoking Ordinance, the St. Joseph County Airport Authority has updated its own policy further restricting where smoking and the use of any tobacco products is allowed. The policy was updated in conjunction with the installation of three smoking shelters on the south side of the main drive in front of the terminal building.
Except for the Air Host Café Lounge in the terminal, the use of tobacco products shall be permitted only outside any Airport Authority-owned or operated building, according to the updated policy. Smoking will no longer be permitted on the north side of the main drive in front of the terminal or at any other point within thirty feet of any building. Smoking materials must be extinguished and placed in the available receptacles prior to crossing the main drive from the parking lots.
“This should not only provide a more smoke-free environment for the patrons of the airport but it should also improve the appearance of the area in front of the terminal building,” said John Schalliol, Airport Authority Executive Director. “The updated policy will apply to all members of the traveling public, the users of Authority owned or operated facilities, as well as to the employees of the Airport Authority,” emphasized Schalliol.
